Enrique — It feels good to volunteer at this shelter. I try to help the needy. We all need one another. I was roaming the streets looking for food and the food was right here [at the shelter] right in front of me.
I’ve been in Tijuana for approximately 2 ½ years. The people at the shelter have helped me a lot. I was able to get a copy of my birth certificate here, free, thanks to the kindness of the people here. My goal is to start a new life here, to find a good woman. I want to help others who are in the streets looking for something to eat.
I was raised in the United States since I was six years old but, unfortunately, if you don’t follow the rules, well…
I accept what I did. I accept what brought me here. But it doesn’t end for me here. On the contrary, I keep fighting and struggling and working to get ahead. Life is too beautiful to just see it waste away.
